Life on the road….
So….What do you do when you’re in the “cattle capital’ of the country…..Well of course, you go to a live cattle auction with all the ranchers and cowboys! It was quite an amazing thing to see….and smell! Over 2,000 head of cattle being auctioned off. The arena is inside an air conditioned building with stadium seating for about 700 people and a café where you can get….a burger…or a steak…or….meat of course! The auctioneer was your typical fast talking arm waving animated guy and the cowboys were….well…cowboys. I saw as many as 92 cows in the little arena at a time. It looked like a swarm of bees circling around a hive. They would all start moving in one direction and just kept “hoofin it” until one of the cowboys would open the other gate. Then they would stampede off like….well….like cattle……They even had some little calves weighing in at no more than 50 pounds up for auction.
Now I am not a big fan of food pictures, but in honor of my first…and probably last cattle auction, I cooked a T-bone steak on the grill for dinner. So here’s a pic…..I wonder if all the cows across the street could smell it cooking….
